De minimum jackpot van de Powerball loterij is 40 miljoen dollar. Elke keer nadat de Powerball jackpot is gevallen, wordt de jackpot weer op 40 miljoen dollar gezet. Elke keer dat de jackpot niet valt, komen er meer en meer dollars in de jackpot. De laatste keer dat de jackpot viel was 7 november vorig jaar. Inmiddels is de Powerball loterij 18 trekkingen verder en 18 trekkingen is de jackpot niet gevallen. De kans dat de jackpot valt is 1 op 292,2 miljoen. Je moet namelijk de vijf getallen en de Powerball-getallen precies goed aankruisen om te winnen. Dat maar liefst 18 keer op rij deze jackpot niet is gevallen, is zelfs voor de Powerball loterij uiterst uitzonderlijk.
Het record staat nu nog op 656 miljoen dollar. Dat bedrag won een Amerikaanse dame in maart 2012. Deze vrouw won de Mega Millions-jackpot. Dat is ook een Amerikaanse loterij en een grote concurrent van Powerball. Powerball zal dus erg in haar nopjes zijn dat het record van 656 miljoen dollar deze zaterdag verpulverd gaat worden. In mei 2013 keerde de Powerball-loterij de hoogste jackpot in de Powerball-historie uit. De 84-jarige Gloria C. MacKenzie uit Tampa (Florida) won toen 590,5 miljoen dollar.
Om loten te kopen voor deze wereldrecord jackpot, hoef je tegenwoordig niet meer naar de Verenigde Staten af te reizen. Je kunt vanuit je luie stoel loten kopen voor de Powerball-loterij. Je hebt nog twee dagen de tijd om loten te kopen en kans te maken op deze mega jackpot van bijna driekwart miljard dollar! Voor € 13,95 koop je drie kansen op 700 miljoen dollar. Voor € 59,29 doe je de komende vijf trekkingen mee met drie loten.
